Mike Calia



Michael Calia is the Director of the Ed McMahon Mass Communications Center, the facility that serves the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University.  Mike has an undergraduate degree in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University, and a master’s degree from Wesleyan.  He was an editor at Union Carbide’s world headquarters in Danbury, CT in the early 1980s, then at ESPN and Times-Mirror Cable Television.  His freelance career includes producing and directing for many corporate clients and CPTV.
  
In 1993, he joined Quinnipiac University, which was then establishing a high-end media production facility.  The School of Communications now has more than 1000 students studying in areas such as Media Production, Journalism, Public Relations and Media Studies.  Mike teaches a several courses each year in media production, cinema history and aesthetics.  He is currently shooting a documentary with QU assistant professor Rich Hanley on the history of the New Haven Coliseum, and is producing an interactive kiosk for the School of Communications.
